   Economy and Welfare

We have a strong local economy. Since 1997, Labour's stewardship of the national economy has meant that:

Unemployment

  • Since 1997, unemployment in Warwick and Leamington has been cut by 427 or 24% 

Business

  • 3,065 more local businesses; and
  • 5,000 more jobs

New Deal

  • 680 young people in Warwick and Leamington have gained a job through the New Deal

Pensions Credit

  • 5,060 pensioners in Warwick and Leamington have benefitted from the Pension Credit

Child Tax Credit

  • 3,200 families, including 5,900 children, are benefitting from Labour's tax credits in Warwick and Leamington

Child Trust Funds

Child Trust Funds were created by this Government to give children the best start in life by providing a account that they and their family can contribute to.

In Warwick and Leamington:

  • 3,469 Child Trust Fund accounts have been opened, or 80% of those that have been issued
