   Education

Early Years

  • There are 3,520 more free early years places for 3 and 4 year olds than there were in 1997.
  • There are 3 Sure Start Children's Centres in Warwick and Leamington

Literacy and Numeracy

  • There has been a 17% increase in the number of 11 year olds able to read and write
  • There has been a 21% increase in the number of 11 year olds achieving Level 4 or above in Maths

GCSE's

  • The has been a 17.8% increase in the number of young people leaving school with five or more good GCSE grades

Funding per Pupil

  • In 2005/06, the real terms funding per pupil aged 3-19 had increased by £1,140 or 41.5% since 1997.

Schools

  • Specialist status for all our local secondary schools
  • Smaller class sizes in all our primary schools

Since 1997, Labour has invested £16.3 million in building improvements at 35 schools in warwick and Leamington. This includes:

  • New facilities at Aylesford;
  • New Facilites at Myton; and
  • A £6 million investment in North Leamington School new building which is currently underway.

School Workforce

    Within Warwick and Leamington, as of this year, there are:

  • 60 more Primary Teachers;
  • 390 more Secondary Teachers;
  • 1210 more Teaching Assistants; and
  • 440 more Support Staff

   And the average wage for a full-time regular teacher in our area is now:

  • £32,010, up from £22,540 in 1997
