How do I register to vote?
You need to be on the electoral register to vote in local, parliamentary or European elections. You can apply to go on to the electoral register if your 18th birthday falls during the next 12 months, you are already aged 18 or over, and you are a British or Commonwealth citizen, or citizen of the Irish Republic or other EU member state. You can also make changes to your name and address.
Updates can be made monthly to the current electoral register, so you can apply to register as soon as you move into your new address, instead of waiting until the next annual canvass.
If you filled in the annual canvass form delivered to your home, you should already be on the electoral register. But if you think you may not be registered, for example, if you have recently moved home, then you need to register to vote by contacting the Council.
Applying for a Postal Vote
You can apply to vote by post at any election. The postal vote can be for a particular election, for a set period or permanently and can be sent to any address you choose to receive it at.
Application forms are available from the main Council offices in Milverton Hill, the Town Hall, Royal Leamington Spa or the Kenilworth and Warwick Connection or you can contact the Electoral Registration Office on 01926 456111.

Receiving your Ballot Paper
If you choose to vote by post, your ballot paper will be sent to you 1 week prior to the election day. You mark your ballot paper in the normal way and then return it in the pre-paid envelope along with the other documentation before the close of poll.
If you are going away during the week prior to election day, and it will not be convenient for you to receive a postal ballot paper at your holiday address, you can arrange to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf.
Completed applications for Postal and Proxy Votes must be received in the Electoral Registration Office no later than 5 pm, 11 working days prior to an election.
