The Pre-Budget Report

How are you affected?

 

The Chancellor has set out how Labour will return the country to growth, reduce our debt while protecting the most vulnerable in our society.

Fairness

  • Over half the money raised to pay off UK debt will come from the top 2% of earners
  • A Tax on Bankers - Bonuses over £25,000 will be taxed at 50% (including shares)
  • No tax rises for those earning up to £20,000
  • 4% increase in the State Pension

Keeping people in Work and in their Homes

  • Everyone upto age 24 out of work for more than 6 months is guaranteed a job or training place
  • Extension of the Support for Mortgage Interest - helping people pay mortgages if they are out of work - which has helped 220,000 families since last year

  • Raised the pension by £60 – the Conservatives opposed it
  • Raised Child Benefit to £20 per week – the Conservatives opposed it
  • Increased Child Tax Credit by £75 – the Conservatives opposed it                        
  • Given a £145 tax refund to all basic ratepayers – the Conservatives opposed it   
  • Cut VAT, giving each family an extra £5 per week – the Conservatives opposed it
